Kalimaran Feast

Kalimaran Feast is an annual cultural celebration of the Muruts ethnic. Kalimaran Festival celebrates the richness of culture of the Muruts and presents most of their cultural aspects.

The word Kalimaran refers to the craftsmanship activities among the Muruts ethnic. kalimaran derived from the Murut’s words ralaa(young lady) and alimar(hardworking, strong-minded, diligent and trustworthy). the Muruts legend say a young Murut lady called Ralaa , she was a hardworking, strong-minded, diligent and trustworthy. But her brother Yolomor had to sacrifice her for the benefit of their community. Before she was sacrificed she managed to produce many handicrafts like the Tikar, Silaung, Tikalis, Buyung, Lintoyog and Onot by using raw materials like bamboo, rattan and bamban. Ralaa ended her kalimaran by weaving cloth, sampoi (scarf) by using thread, which was produced from Timahan roots. Finally, Ralaa was sacrificed by Yolomor to get seeds for his cultivation farm.

Kedah is a state of Malaysia, located in the northwestern part of Peninsular Malaysia. bordering with Thailand and Perlis in the north, Pulau Pinang(penang) in west side and state of Perak in east and south. The higher point is Gunung Jerai(Mountain Jerai) 1,200 meters above sea level.The state covers a total area of 9,425 km2, and consists mostly of flat areas growing rice-Rice-bowl of Malaysia.

Perlis or in full Perlis Indera Keyangan. Is the smallest state in Malaysia(only 810 sq km),lies at the northern part of the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Perlis’s head of state is the Raja (The King) and carrying family name Jamalulail, government is headed by a Menteri Besar whose elected in state election.
